Hudson Crossing has been awarded a grant from the Saratoga Program for the Arts to offer a summer art workshop for children ages 8 and up.Classes will be offered in the Schuylerville area during July. Youth will work with mosaic artist Ceres Zabel from the Odyssey School of Fine Arts. They will create three tiled, stepping stones for a new Play Garden path, which is scheduled to be completed next summer.
The images on the stepping stones will lead viewers on a sequential journey, which will be a graphic tour of the life cycles for plants and animals through the seasons on the river.
Project manager Cindy Wian said the mosaic stepping stones also will serve a functional purpose in the Play Garden. The garden includes slides embedded in hillsides, tunnels through grassy knolls and a stone path labyrinth. This project will allow children and young adults to make their own contribution to the construction of the new space.
