Art glass – cool to the touch and dramatically three-dimensional- is a unique way to hold light in your hands. Rich colors, fanciful shapes, mysterious opacity or glowing transparency along with glass’ ability to reflect and refract light make it a medium that’s attracting increasing numbers of artists.
“It seems like in the last year or so, glass art has been getting more coverage. On a commercial level it’s hotter than ever,” says Beth Goldberg, curator of Falkirk Cultural Center in San Rafael.
Because the medium has become so popular, Falkirk is staging its first exhibit of glass art. Opening on Jan. 25, the show will feature more than 50 works from four Bay Area artists: Enrique Goldenberg of San Rafael, Duncan House of Benicia, Michael Sosin of Berkeley and Penelope Comfort Starr of San Anselmo.
