Easton – Easton’s Unity Church welcomed visitors from the other side of the globe last week.
The church’s stained glass windows “Angel of Help” and “Wisdom Window,” by stained glass artist John La Farge, will appear on the Japanese show “Best House 1,2,3,” on the show’s world best stained glass segment.
La Farge was a famous artist who created stained glass art from 1874 to his death in 1910.
Chairman of the church’s restoration committee, Ellen Dehm, said the Japanese film crew was researching stained glass around the world and someone recommended John La Farge. The crew was in town filming Tuesday, Feb. 26 and Wednesday, Feb. 27.
Dehm said many people have visited the church to view the windows, but said this is the first time the windows have been featured on a television show.
“I think its great the windows are of interest internationally,” Dehm said. “They are important pieces of art.”
She said Architect John Ames Mitchell designed the original windows in the church. The windows were replaced with the La Farge windows as memorials to members of the Ames family, Dehm said.
The “Angel of Help Window” was installed in 1886 and the “Wisdom Window” was installed in 1901.
